Creating Comprehensive Value

The path towards equitable and sustainable prosperity around the globe requires us to create and preserve value in many dimensions, including economic value, social value, moral value, and environmental value. Policies must enable progress in all these dimensions to create comprehensive value.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development agreed by the United Nations in late 2015 is an important step in this direction, providing a framework for global policy for individuals, communities, countries, and international bodies.

Under the theme "Creating Comprehensive Value", the GES 2016 will develop solutions to pressing global challenges, to achieve equitable and sustainable prosperity.

Why the GES 2016 is being held in Turkey

  • Turkey is closely involved in many of the global challenges we face today and can offer important experience in such areas as the ongoing refugee crisis (which has its roots in neighboring states), the conflict in Syria, the difficulties facing emerging economies, and the search for equitable and integrative growth.
  • The GES 2016 will address a number of issues pertaining to Turkey’s Presidency of the G20 in 2015 and draw parallels to China’s G20 Presidency this year. It also aims to provide recommendations for Germany’s G20 Presidency in 2017.
  • The GES 2016 can provide a platform for developing new solutions to international problems in ways that are non-ideological, fully independent, science-based, and in keeping with the spirit of global citizenship. The GES is committed to open dialogue with no limitations on debate and no fear of confronting uncomfortable issues and positions.
  • The host partner, the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), has been an enthusiastic supporter of the initiatives and aims of the GES since the event was first held in Istanbul in 2010 to much acclaim.

The organizers of the GES believe that solutions to global problems can only be found through open discourse across national, religious, political, and social boundaries and with full respect for human rights. This science-based dialogue should also include diverse points of view in order to arrive at the best possible solutions for equitable and sustainable prosperity.
