Director, ZBW

In the name of the ZBW, the German National Library for Economics, I would like to welcome you to the Global Economic Symposium 2009 in Plön. The ZBW is delighted to be one of the organizers of this year’s GES, together with the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Science, Economic Affairs, and Transportation.

You have all come to Northern Germany with a clear purpose in mind: the joint development of concrete solutions to the immediate problems of humankind.

As leaders in economic decision-making you have come to the GES in Plön to lend your specific expertise to the building of strategies to deal with major global problems (supported by the recent research findings at your disposal on the virtual platform of the GES).

In order to make the right decisions, you need reliable information management. The ZBW, also known as the Leibniz Information Center for Economics, is the world’s largest library for economics, and we can provide you with efficient information management. We are your directory to economics in the age of bits and bytes. We wish to support you, the participants of the GES, at all levels of your information management – from the acquisition of information to its organization. This will be our contribution to an effective and substantial dialogue at the GES 2009.

I wish you success in your endeavors.

Horst Thomsen
Director, ZBW
