About

The Bertelsmann Stiftung is both a think tank and an agent for social change. In keeping with the longstanding commitment of its founder, Reinhard Mohn, the Bertelsmann Stiftung is dedicated to serving the common good. Our work is based on the conviction that competition and civic engagement are essential for social progress. The Bertelsmann Stiftung is private operating foundation; it carries out its own project work and does not make grants or support third-party projects.

Our primary goal is to make a meaningful and enduring contribution to society. We focus our activities on projects that can decisively influence society’s long-term viability and on areas where we have built compelling competence through years of experience. In more than 60 projects, we work toward improved education, a sustainable economic system, a preventative healthcare system, a vibrant civil society, and greater international understanding.

We identify areas needing reform by working together with those affected by current problems. Our partners include political, business and social leaders, public and academic institutions and other foundations. We place particular emphasis on maintaining an active exchange with representatives of other countries and cultures. With its offices in Barcelona, Washington, DC and Brussels, the Bertelsmann Stiftung maintains a targeted international framework for its ongoing project work.
