Corporate Global Stewardship Initiative
Today’s global economic problems cannot be resolved by business leaders, policy makers, civil leaders and academics acting in isolation. Addressing these problems requires the coordinated efforts of all of them.
The Corporate Global Stewardship Initiative promotes such collaboration in providing a network in which business leaders can work together and in supporting their efforts by connecting them to the international research community.
Such collaboration does not require that business leaders abandon the objective of running a business, which is to make profit. It merely requires that they use this objective to advance the broader public interest. The purpose of the Corporate Global Stewardship Initiative is to help businesses use their power of entrepreneurship in order to efficiently address global economic problems. The initiative aims to enable companies to:
- identify opportunities that allow them to use their profit-making and innovation capabilities to contribute to the resolution of a particular global problem,
- mobilize their core competencies to implement concrete, well-focused and measurable strategies for resolving this particular problem.
As one of the few leading research institutions that are studying the world economy from a global perspective, the Kiel Institute for the World Economy is particularly well positioned to understand the concerns of companies facing pressing global problems. This is why the Kiel Institute is launching the Corporate Global Stewardship Initiative. By promoting innovative business strategies, it aims to better spread the gains of capitalism, to strengthen collaboration between regions and activity sectors, and to help overcome the disconnection between globalization and society.
