Organization of the GES

In order to bring about a fruitful interaction among its participants, each Symposium will be embedded in the following process:

The Virtual GES is the web-based information and communication platform of the GES. It provides the necessary research, policy and strategy background for the GES. Here GES participants and other contributors can outline proposed strategies for dealing with the specified global problems, researchers can upload their research contributions, and all members of the community have the opportunity to participate in strategy debates concerning responses to the global problems. The Virtual GES enables the participants of the GES to deepen their knowledge of the underlying issues before attending the Symposium, so that the exchange of ideas during the Symposium can proceed on a high, well-informed level.

The GES will take place in alteration between Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and a major international center. Thereby the Symposium aims to maintain its roots near the Kiel Institute while enlarging its communities abroad. Every GES lasts two full days and comprises 400 participants.

The contributions generated by the GES – useful, imaginative steps in a constructive direction, supported through a broad agreement among leading decision makers from diverse walks of life – are what we label “solutions.”

The success of the GES depends on its supporting communities:

  • The German National Library of Economics produces a knowledge base for the GES. Thereby we seek to build a central repository of existing solutions to global problems, on which basis the new solutions can be developed and evaluated.
  • The team of Global Economic Experts, comprising renowned specialists from around the world, selects panelists for each session and provides input on session content.
